Texas Dragon Force 65 Series Regatta #2

file1Another fun regatta, this time in Dallas. For the first time, my wife came with to watch the activities. She was entertained and helped with the scoring and taking photos. Below is Chuck’s writeup of the regatta and I borrowed a picture or two of the event as well.

This was an especially fun regatta because there were several people new to RC sailing or new to this boat. Either way it was a learning experience for them and I hope they enjoyed it. New people in the hobby is always a good thing and something that us veteran sailors need to be paying attention to and assisting as much as possible. New people bring new experiences, more fun, and an opportunity to build the hobby.

Today saw another great afternoon of racing race in the Texas DF Series.

18 skippers from all over Texas descended upon White Rock Lake to sail in the second race of 10 for the 2016 season. Temps were awesome in the 60s and the wind started shifty and out of the e/se but eventually shifted and made for some great racing later in the afternoon, and managed to get in 12 races (1 throwout).

As has become tradition in the series, we welcomed 3 new skippers to the TX Dragon Force ranks; Peter Husser, Griffin Griffin Kirby Orr, and the legendary Bud (Budman) Garcia!

We also welcomed back Jerry Tippit, Texas DF veteran, who is finally off the DL and back racing… Great to see you Jerry!

The day started off with the sizzling hot Robert Piper reeling off 4 bullets in the first 7 races, but Eric Rosenbaum showed off skill and consistency and pulled away at the end of the day to capture first place. Bob finished just behind Chuck LeMahieu in third, and Mauricio Dantas and Russell Gardnerr also had very good results on the afternoon.

The Masters Series is a dead heat between Fernando Campoverde and Fred Sheldon.

Chuck LeMahieu leads the overall series just ahead of Bob Piper and Russell Gardner

We have already had 30 skippers race in the 2 series races we have sailed this year!
Remember there are 4 throwouts in the series so if you havent raced yet you are certainly still able to stay in the race… just make sure you start showing up and join in the largest, most popular Radio Sailing Series in the Southwest USA!

Our next Race will be in Houston on March 12 as usual 11A-3P… dont miss out on the fun!

Texas Dragonforce Series Regatta #1 Results

The next RC Sailing regatta in the Austin area will be in Sun City  at Berry Pond on April 9th, 2016. This will be a Dragonforce regatta.

There has been one regatta this year in the Texas Dragonforce Series, January 9th.

As written by Chuck LeMathieu…..

It was solid B rig conditions for the Kickoff race of the 2016 Texas DragonForce 65  Series at the excellent Bridgeland venue on the West side of Houston. 20 Skippers braved winds gusting up to 25 mph. And managed to get in 14 races!

Once again the TX DF. Series had 3 new slippers who had not sailed in  the series previously!
Chuck LeMahieu took top honors with 17 pts.
TRYC Commodore , Bob Piper captured 2 place with consistent racing , and just edged out Russ Gardner who won his first regatta race ever, and also achieved his highest place in 3 years of Series competition.
Thanks to Phil Runquist for putting everything together for today and to Rey for keeping score !!
